About MICCI
The Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) is an established and progressive organization representing the majority of international corporations currently operating in Malaysia. It aims to promote, protect and advance free enterprise and in particular the interests of the international investment community at present and potentially involved in trade, commerce and industry in Malaysia. The MICCI maintains a constant evaluation of the Malaysian business climate and enjoys an excellent dialogue status with the Government.
The MICCI Secretariat is in Kuala Lumpur. It has 6 branch offices, located across Malaysia: Penang, Ipoh, Malacca, Johor Bahru, Kuantan and Kota Kinabalu. MICCI also has a representative Chamber in Kuching, Sarawak.
The Chamber presently has over approximately 1,000 corporate members, with representations from over 30 countries. These include multinational companies (MNC's), Public Listed Companies (PLC's) and small and medium sized companies (SME's) from a very wide range of industries. Approximately 30% of the membership are involved in manufacturing, 20% in trading, 15% in banking & financial services and the rest other services such as agriculture, legal, construction, property, media, transport, tourism and other services. MICCI members are significant investors in Malaysia and represent in excess of 110 billion Ringgit of investment in the country.
Any person, firm or company having international interests beyond Malaysia and authorized to carry out business in Malaysia is eligible to be an ordinary or associate member of the Chamber in accordance with the criteria established for each class of membership.
The affairs of the Chamber are controlled by the General Committee (Board of Directors) constituted annually at the Annual General Meeting of the Chamber.
MICCI operates by a system of Standing Committees which looks into all matters concerning the international business community in Malaysia. There are presently 14 Standing Committees which handle specific areas of concern to the international investor in the country such as matters related to expatriate employment, the environment, taxation matters and infrastructural issues. Other activities of the Chamber include liaison with Government ministries and departments, providing information and consultation services, and the authentication of trade documents and the issuing of ATA Carnets.
